Boom in Vietnam’s frozen fish exports
Vietnam’s tunas have become a favourite around the world, now available in 14 more markets compared to the first quarter of last year, reported the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Local producers exported 5,800 tonnes of tunas fetching 26 million USD in the first three months of 2008, up 15 percent in volume and 23 percent in value.

Catfish producers work to improve quality
More than 100 tra and basa catfish producers met at a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on January 21 to discuss measures to improve quality for their exported products.
Chairing the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Le Phuong affirmed that it is unacceptable for businesses to make frauds spoiling the prestige of Viet Nam ’s exported tra and basa catfish, which is one of the country’s staples for exports.

Vietnam succeeds in growing sea grapes
The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute has announced it has successfully grown Caulerpa lentilifera, or sea grapes, which can be used as a high-class vegetable. The production cost for one kilogramme of sea grapes is VND20,000, while the export price may reach several tens of dollars for each kilogramme.

Viet Nam, RoK enter another seafood hygiene accord
Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) signed an additional agreement regarding exported seafood hygiene in Ha Noi on November 14.
The accord was inked during a trip by a RoK National Fisheries Products Quality Inspection Service (NFPQIS) delegation from November 11-17 to inspect hygiene conditions at a number of local seafood processing businesses and farms.
