From April to October this year, Vietnam shrimp export has not shown signs of recovery over the same period in 2017. In October, Vietnam shrimp exports decreased 17.3% over the same period last year to over US $ 348 million dollars. In the first 10 months of this year, shrimp export of the country reached US $ 2.97 billion, down 5.8% over the same period in 2017.

Since the second quarter of 2018, Vietnam shrimp export continued to decline compared with the same period in 2017. In September, Vietnam shrimp exports decreased 14.8% over the same period last year to nearly US $ 332 million. Due to the decline in the second quarter and the third quarter of this year, shrimp export of the country in the first nine months of this year reached US $ 2.6 billion, down 4% over the same period in 2017.

Vietnam’s export of squid, octopus has continued to decline in August. The export value of this month only reached nearly US $ 64 million, down 7.8% over the same period in 2017. However, thanks to the good growth in the previous months, total export value in the first eight months was up 3.5% over the same period, reached US $ 417 million.

Squid continued to be the main export products of Vietnamese cephalopod in the first three months of 2018, accounting for 56 per cent of total export value, while octopus products accounted for 44 per cent. Of that, exports of dried/fermented/fresh/live/frozen octopus (HS code 03) accounted for the highest proportion of almost 34 per cent; followed by fresh/live/frozen squid (HS code 03) with 31.7 per cent. This year, thanks to abundant raw materials and high demand from the main import markets, Viet Nam has boosted its squid and octopus export.

In the first three months of 2018, tra fish export was estimated at US $ 438.2 million, up 18 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of which, tra fish export to the main markets saw a positive growth rate, such as China - Hong Kong increased 45 per cent, USA increased 22.7 per cent; ASEAN increased 56.5 per cent, etc.
