Asian – India workshop on blue economy (30-11-2017)
With the title “Blue Economy: From Concept to Action.”, Asian–India workshop on blue economy was held by the Viet Nam’s Foreign Ministry, India’s External Affairs Ministry, and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) on 24th November.
According to Nguyen Quoc Dung, Deputy Minister of Viet Nam’s Foreign Ministry, this was initiated by Viet Nam as part of activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of establishment of dialogue partnership between ASEAN and India.
The workshop was aimed at concretizing co-operation stategies between Asean countries and India which focuses on building common agenda for protecting and preserving the marine environment; at the same time, building suitable economic cooperation mechanisms to facilitate sustainable development.
At the workshop, the delegate emphasised the significance of regional and inter-regional co-operation in blue economy, especially in the context of exhausted marine resources, declining biodiversity, increasing environmental pollution and climate change. Besides, they discussed and gave some recommendations for enhancing co-operation between ASEAN and India in the coming time.
